Increase the value of your property with a metal carport
Having a carport is an excellent way to protect your car or vehicle from the weather, but did you know that there is another benefit? Should you ever decide to sell your home having, a carport can actually increase the value of the property. Here are a few benefits of having a quality carport.
Protect your vehicles
Vehicles are an investment, and to get the most out of your vehicle and increase its overall life span, a carport can help. The sun, wind, rain, and snow can all destroy your vehicle with enough exposure. A sturdy metal carport can offer protection.
Being able to enter your car and not having to spend time scraping off snow or trying to cool it off on a particularly hot day is incredibly convenient. By merely having a carport, you can increase the overall lifespan of your vehicle by drastically reducing the amount of time it’s exposed to the weather.
Why quality matters
Having a carport built is simple, but installing a quality carport is essential. You don’t want a carport that cannot withstand weather, because that defeats the purpose. Instead, opt for quality. You may have to spend a little more. However, it adds to the value and can ultimately save you money as you won’t have to worry about costly repairs for your vehicle.
Metal is a durable material that is easy to work with. If you are looking to protect your vehicle and add value to your property look no further than Keen’s Buildings. We offer high-quality carports and metal buildings for an affordable price and will work with you every step of the way so that your carport not only functions as intended but will last for years to come!
If you have a recreational vehicle, a carport can offer protection for your RV between trips. There are many different carports to choose from, so it can be difficult selecting the right one. To help you choose the ideal carport for you here are a few things to take into consideration.
Your carport’s primary purpose
The purpose of your carport will help you make crucial decisions about your construction. The size of your RV, the amount of protection you want to provide your vehicle, and your future plans (like if you want to buy another recreational vehicle) can all impact the size, function, and look of your carport.
Where will you choose to install your carport
Firstly, you’ll want to select an area that has enough space for the installation, ideally on level ground. If the ground is not level, you may have to level the area. Which foundation you want is another thing to consider.
Your geographic location will also determine some aspects of your building. Additionally, certain areas will require certification for your structure. It’s essential for buildings to withstand high winds in areas prone to thunderstorms (like Florida) or weight from the snow.
Knowing the typical weather for your region will help you make design choices that best protect your carport. If you live in Florida, you’ll want a carport that is able to sustain high winds, while also offering optimal protection from the sun.
Lastly, there are your personal preferences to consider. What do you want your carport to look like? Are there additional elements you want for your steel construction? How tall and wide would you like your carport to be? Here at Keen’s Buildings, we offer many customizability options for all of our buildings and constructions. To learn more about the many different options, you have, contact us today.
Hundreds of thousands of people have purchased a recreational vehicle in the past year alone. Housing your RV in other lots can get expensive, easily reaching a thousand dollars per month. With such a costly investment wouldn’t you want to ensure your property is safe?
Having a personal RV carport is a cost-effective alternative to protecting your recreational vehicle without having to worry about incurring damage. Unlike a facility, you don’t have to worry about monthly fees. Because a carport will protect your RV from the elements, the carport pays for itself, as it will save you money on costly repairs to your RV that you may have otherwise had to make due to weather conditions or UV rays.
There are quite a few things to consider before you start construction on your steel carport.
First and foremost, be sure you have the room necessary to build a carport. Depending on the size of your vehicle you may need more or less room. Consider where you want your carport to be positioned and measure to see if it’s feasible to put a carport in that particular location.
Next, find out if your homeowner association are okay with you having a carport. Most homeowner associations will object to your building a carport that is visible from the front of your house. Some homeowner associations will be okay with you having a carport behind your residence. Check with your homeowner association first to see if it’s all right before you start construction.
Check with your local authorities to see what the building regulations are and to find out if you need any permits.
Having an RV shelter on your property is incredibly convenient. Not only will you save hundreds if not thousands of dollars a year. You also don’t have to worry about the hassle of having to pick up your RV. Whenever you want to travel, you can simply pack up and go, saving you precious dollars in gas money.

Your RV or motorhome is a major investment in terms of the fun you expect from it and the money it will cost you. Therefore, it is imperative that you invest in tall carports and camper covers. They will not only protect your investment, but also enhance the quality of your experience when using your motorhome or RV. Here at Keen’s Buildings we are the leading manufacturers of tall carports and camper covers. If you’re looking for reasons to invest in them for your motorhome or RV, you’ve come to the right place.
People living in the state of Florida will already be familiar with the devastation that weather can cause to your RV or motorhome, which is why investing in protection is a smart idea. Here are some of the reasons why you should buy tall carports and camper covers:
1. Shield the exterior
The harmful UV rays and the elements can wreak havoc on the exterior of your motorhome or RV, which will show signs of deterioration if it is left parked underneath the sun. The paint will start to fade, and the rubber or vinyl outside your vehicle will start to crack and breakdown. To further compound matters, pounding rain and hail can damage the exterior surface of your motorhome or RV. Therefore, it is imperative that you shield it from the elements with a tall carport or camper cover to extend the lifespan of your vehicle and help retain its shiny exterior.
2. Protect the interior
A tall carport or camper cover doesn’t only protect the exterior of the RV or motorhome but is also beneficial for the interior as well. If you leave your vehicle parked underneath the sun for extended periods, you will notice the materials inside your RV or motorhome start to fade. The dashboards, living area, and the seats all absorb heat and light, which will lead to deterioration.
3. Because it’s more convenient
Camper covers, and tall carports offer absolute protection from the elements, which will ensure that your RV or motorhome retains its exterior finish for a long time. It also eliminates moisture growth, which is great for ensuring that your mold and mildew don’t get a chance to grow on the surface of your motorhome or RV.
4. It is Economical
Renting a space to shelter your motorhome or RV can be expensive, apart from the inconvenience of parking your vehicle somewhere else, instead of on your property. By investing in a camper cover or tall carport, you don’t need to worry about anything, since it will be on your property. It is a convenient and economical option as well.
When it comes to protecting your motorhome or RV from the elements, there can be no compromises. Keen’s Buildings have been building outstanding custom tall carports and camper covers in Florida at affordable rates. Metal buildings are safe from termites and rot, but excessive moisture can still damage them. This is due to condensation, which is created by damp insulation in a steel building and promotes mildew and mold growth. This makes the interior of the building smells musty and leads to asthma and allergy problems. The problem with wet insulation is that if it is in constant contact with a metal surface, it will lead to corrosion and the fasteners and panels will start collecting rust.
What causes condensation in metal buildings?
To prevent condensation in metal buildings, it is important that you learn why and how condensation takes place in metal structures. There are two main reasons for condensation to form:
1. The air must be moist
If the humidity level in the air is extremely high, it will increase the chances of condensation, because the interior of metal buildings is designed to withstand the humidity of about 30% to 50%.
2. The difference in temperature between the air and the surface
Warmer air will hold more moisture than cold air, and metal buildings in chilly weather will have very cold walls. When the warm air gets inside the building and hits the cold surface, it gets chilled and creates condensation on the metal.
However, there are different ways you can prevent condensation from occurring in metal buildings.
Reducing humidity inside the building, by getting proper ventilation.
Ensuring the air inside the building doesn’t meet with the cold metal roof and walls.
Here, at Keen’s Buildings, we want to ensure that everyone learns about the best ways to prevent condensation in metal buildings:
1. Install vapor barriers
Vapor barriers are great at protecting metal buildings from condensation. These barriers are great for keeping moisture outside the building, and the best way to work with vapor barriers is to seal the building tightly. This keeps moisture out, and vapor barriers act as radiant heat barriers, which will address humidity and temperature differential together. All side/end laps, foundation sills, doors, and windows should be sealed with vapor barriers to keep moisture out.
2. Use continuous insulation
You must get proper insulation that regulates the temperature inside the building. This keeps the interior temperature stable, whether it is day or night, and limits the amount of dew that is on the surface of metal buildings. Continuous insulation stops moisture-laden air from reach the interior of the building and therefore stops condensation from happening.
3. Look for condensation troubles up above
Make sure that the insulation underneath the roof isn’t coming in contact with the metal because this is one place where hidden condensation can take place. Moisture seeping in and roof leaks can lead to condensation because moisture buildup promotes condensation.
4. Prevent water seeping from below
Moisture can seep up from the ground as well, but you can prevent that by using drainage materials, crushed rock, or gravel under the concrete slabs. This prevents condensation around the base of the structure. You should also ensure that roof runoff water and other sources of water drain away from the metal building to prevent condensation from below.

Now that you’ve got your Keen’s Buildings Steel Building, durable storage structure built you will want to keep it clean and organized. Taking a few hours and a little sunshine to maintain the appearance of your building is key for keeping mold, mildew, and stains your steel building. These helpful guide lines should offer some ways to tackle the task.
With A Mixture of Dish soap and Water: Get a bucket with a tablespoon of mild dish soap. Keep in mind that for every five gallons of water used, you only need a few teaspoons of soap. Next, take your garden hose to rinse the siding and outer structure thoroughly. Once you’ve loosened the dirt, on the outside, use a long handled scrub brush with soft bristles or oversized sponge. You don’t want to scratch the surface of our building with a harsh cleaning utensil. Work your way all around your structure and then rinse down the building with your garden hose
When Using A Power Washer: Power washers can have intensive water pressure settings which be more effective for removing dirt on the exterior of a Keens Steel Building. Power washers can be rented or purchased depending on how often you may use one. Most power washers come with attachments like long handled brushes with bristles that rotate. Often times these power washers come with cleaning solutions that help get rid of tough stains on the siding. Be sure to use a low setting on the power washer if you’ve chosen a vinyl or wooden structure. High-pressure blasts directly hitting nonsteel surfaces can be damaging.
Remove mildew with a Special Cleaner: Stubborn spots and stains can require a bit more than elbow grease. Try using a special cleaning solution with a tooth brush to concentrate on those tough stains. Rinse clean let dry then repeat the process. Many home improvement specialty stores carry cleaning solutions made for vinyl and wooden surfaces. While a Keens Steel building structure can withstand high-pressure blasts you want to be mindful not go overboard with certain chemicals in specialty cleaners. They can cause surface discoloration.
Use a Water and Vinegar Solution: A-70% water 30% vinegar combination is the right ratio for this solution. Many environment concerned clients prefer to use all-natural products. A vinegar based cleaning solutions is a green alternative that is rather effective. You want to wash down your building with the vinegar solution, let it sit for 30 minutes, rinse, repeat and dry.
Try a combination of laundry detergent and water: This is another cost-effective structure cleaning option. 1/3 cup detergent for every 6 gallons of water is the suggested proportion. If you are using a power washer you can use this mixture as your cleaning solution. Long handled sponge mops or scrubbing brushes will work up a good lather on your steel building. Rinse off the surface with a garden hose or power cleaner, repeat, and then let dry.
