What exactly makes a building ‘portable?’ The term is thrown about the industry, but it is often used to describe several different types of structures. As a result, it can be confusing for the average buyer who doesn’t have a background in metal and wooden buildings. So, to clear up any confusion, let’s dive a little deeper into the different types of portable buildings.
First up, you’ll see the term used for larger metal and wooden structures engineered to sit on non-permanent foundations. These buildings can also be called modular structures and are typically used for applications like portable office spaces, construction projects, and mobile classrooms. Structures like these must be built to the same building codes and standards as any other permanent structure.
Then you have garden and equipment sheds. While these structures are also “portable buildings,” they’re engineered for small-scale storage and quick transportation. Unlike larger structures that require more hardy reinforcements, these smaller buildings will use dirt, concrete pads, asphalt, or cinder blocks for their foundations.
In many localities, structures built below a certain square footage threshold are exempt from requiring building permits. For this reason alone, many homeowners choose these portable buildings to store essential items and equipment. It’s a quick, effective way to protect your equipment and valuables without a building inspector’s approval.
Whether you’re looking for a simple place to store your lawn equipment or you want a small getaway cabin to escape into nature, there is no shortage of reasons why a portable building is right for you. These structures are strong, long-lasting, and completely transportable – meaning that if you decide to move, you can pack up your building and take it, too!
Additionally, many portable buildings aren’t considered a permanent part of your property and won’t require building permits due to their size. This gives you the ability to have a great storage solution without all the red tape you’d find in traditional building projects.
If you’re short on storage space or simply need a place to protect your lawn equipment, a portable building is a great, cost-effective option. But many other reasons make these structures such a great fit. You may need a portable building if:
If you rent a home or work in construction where your job site quickly changes, a portable building is a great way to have effective storage that can go with you!
Invest in yourself! Why throw away money on costly commercial storage buildings when you can have a unique structure that’s specifically built for your needs? Additionally, prefab structures often cost far less than on-site construction options.
Many wooden building projects are costly and take months to complete. But if you’re looking for a quick, all-in-one answer to your storage needs, you can’t go wrong with a prefabricated portable building.
If you’re working on a budget and don’t have the credit for traditional financing, rent-to-own packages are an easy way to get your building in a hurry with minimal red tape and no credit checks.
Keens did a nice job in installing a workshop on our family farm in South Georgia. In spite of delays with Covid they were able to get it delivered and installed with no major problems. The staff is very helpful to their customers
So far the experience has been great. Mike and Jake have been nothing but extremely helpful. We needed the right building at the right price and couldn't make up our minds. With detailed information provided by Mike and Jake we feel very confident in our decision. They were even willing to come to the property to make sure the unite would fit. Great service!!!
Everyone from the guys in the office to the ones who delivered my shed were super helpful and friendly!
I had a really great experience at Keens. They were very knowledgeable and efficient.
We purchased a building and carport from Keen's Buildings. We were super impressed with the kind sales people. Not once did I feel pressured like typical sales people. They were just kind,...
Very great experience at Keen's Buildings.Easy process and nice people.
We had great customer service with Eric Wood, he was amazing very personable. So happy we stopped by. Got just what we wanted. “Don’t roam shop at home”
Jake has been great to work with . It doesn't help that we (our country) are in such a F:d time and trying to get items. He has been very patient and has answered all my questions . Thank you Jake .
Hey yall real talk, this is one of the best sales places I have been in a while. 1: DJ the sales guy, my man! Straight Shooter! What he say is what you get. If he don't know he will find it out right then for you. 2: The prices of the sheds are so amazing! It shocked me! 3: The shed quality is outstanding, plus you get a 20 years of warranty.
Keen's Building is a great place to shop for the shed you need. Very professional and kind.
Highly knowable, great to work with. You know what you ate getting walking out the door. We got a garage from them. Happy with it and glad i looked at other companys and glad i didnt go with the other company's. Keens Building is the best.
Great prices and very helpful. I would recommend them for you next shed or garage
I cannot emphasize how happy I am with the finished product...I started working with Josh at Live Oak back in March and after numerous trips and emails, I settled on a size of a custom bldg in April. It took several months to get my pad poured but we had a very wet summer. After multiple color changes and layout mods, we locked in after the pad was poured and our building was erected in about 1.5 days by probably the best crew TBS out of Lake City has. very professional crew and no detail in installation was left out...If you are in the market for a custom built building, I would not hesitate to give them a shot. I had a previous building done by a different company that really got botched..The Sales and your concrete guy really and installation crew is what makes this. And Keen's recommendation on who to use for concrete was also top notch...
Keen’s Buildings is proud to offer a wide range of customization options that allow you to tailor a structure to your exact needs. There are so many choices that it may be somewhat confusing if this is your first time purchasing a structure. But have no fear! We’ll walk you through step-by-step and show you the process of designing your new portable building.
Before designing your structure, you’ll need an idea of how you expect to use it. Developing a comprehensive grasp of what you intend to store in your structure is a great first step.
There are many different building sizes out there! And Keen’s is proud to offer a wide selection of different structures and dimensions to fit your requirements. But, will you need a smaller 8×6 building, or do you need more room?
What material would you like to use? Here, you’ll be able to pick between wooden, steel, and aluminum structures, each with its own aesthetics and capabilities. We even have mixed-style buildings that feature both steel paneling and wooden framing!
With a huge selection of colors, you’ll be able to pick out a hue that’s right for you! You can even customize the color to match your already-present home or garage! Storage buildings don’t have to be dull, lifeless structures!
Depending on how you’d like to design your building’s overall look, you’ll be able to choose between several siding options, including:
Suppose you want to allow some natural light into your structure but don’t want the hassle of setting up electricity. In that case, windows are a fantastic way to provide sunlight and ventilation to a building.
No storage building is complete without at least one door! But at Keen’s, you’ll be able to add as many as you need! We have several door options available, from standard entryway doors to larger garage doors to accommodate larger vehicles and equipment.
Here, you’ll be able to choose your trim, roofing types, wainscoting, and more, allowing you to make a building stand out in the crowd!
Whether it’s a wooden storage shed or our two-story “weekender” building, you want to get the most out of your new purchase. That’s why it’s necessary to keep several crucial things in mind when you begin the process.
Do you need your structure to be permanent? Or will it go with you if you move? Understanding this fundamental concept will provide insight into what type of building will best suit your needs. For example, a simple portable structure will do if you plan to pick up and travel regularly. But if you’d like something a bit more permanent, you may choose a larger permitted structure.
Before purchasing a structure, you’ll want to consult with your local building authorities regarding any zoning and permits required in your area. Additionally, you will want to check with your local homeowner’s association to ensure that your building is appropriately permitted.
Another consideration will be where you intend to place your structure. Your site will need to be clean, free of debris, and located in an area that doesn’t regularly flood.
There are several tradeoffs to choosing a pre-built structure over a standard prefab structure. A pre-built building will be constructed and shipped to your chosen build site. Prefab structures, however, will arrive disassembled and must be installed on-site. Here, choosing between the two depends heavily on whether you’re looking for a quick, no-fuss storage solution or if you’d like to craft a building to your exact needs.
One of the best features of these structures is their flexibility. They work well for a vast number of purposes, including:
Having a dedicated shed for your tools is essential if you like to maintain your vehicles or perform regular home maintenance. These buildings can help you keep your valuable equipment and tools organized and protected.
We’ve all got things to store! A great way to declutter your home and garage is with a storage shed. These customizable structures can keep your important belongings safe and dry year-round.
Did you know that these buildings can be transformed into fantastic personal cabins! Whether you’re starting a small commercial retreat or simply want a getaway cabin on your land, these structures are a great, cost-effective alternative to traditional stick-built structures.
For handling both family bills and side hustles, having office space is a handy way to keep your finances and business in order. These buildings can be customized and finished to make fantastic office spaces, with everything you’d need to handle your business.
If you’ve got a bit of a green thumb, you need a place to store all your tools. Shovels, trowels, and fertilizer need to be stored and protected from the elements. And with a portable garden shed, you’ll have all the room you need!
No matter what you need them for, a portable storage building by Keen’s carries many benefits that can protect your valuables and significantly improve your everyday life. So let’s take a deeper look into the benefits of our portable buildings.
Our portable buildings work well in a wide variety of applications. From backyard storage buildings to tiny homes and everything in between, you’ll be able to choose a structure that’s right for you!
Prefab and pre-built structures can save you tons of money compared to traditional wooden framed buildings. Thanks to their keen engineering and modern construction techniques, these structures are often more affordable than traditional on-site construction.
Did you know that prefab storage buildings are more ecologically friendly than stick-built structures? Since prefabricated structures are built using precise components that were designed ahead of time, they result in far less build site waste. Additionally, the steel components in your structure are 100% recyclable!
Our prefab buildings are engineered to last and come with a 10-year paint warranty and a 25-year comprehensive warranty.
A portable storage building is highly secure and can keep your essential valuables safe from potential thieves.
With quick manufacturing and installation times, your building can be designed, built, and installed in a fraction of the time it would take to construct a similar-sized wooden structure.
Whether installing a new portable building or moving one to another location, you’ll want to ensure that your structure is placed correctly. It will need to be in an area that is clear, accessible, and rests above any known flooding zone.
Keen’s is proud to offer a wide range of portable buildings to suit any need and budget. However, the customization options you choose will affect their price. Adding extra windows, trim, and wainscoting will all require additional components, influencing your structure’s cost.
