For peace of mind, every container's condition is graded at the port by
an independent, IICL-certified container inspector before Keen's Buildings purchases
it, and our team looks it over again on our lot. Four sizes to fit any footprint, four
condition grades to fit any budget, and three door layouts – standard end doors,
doors at both ends, or full-length side doors.

Shipping containers are a natural extension of that: all-steel, weatherproof, lockable
storage that goes anywhere a truck can reach, with no lot rental, no facility hours and
no waiting list. Also called Conex boxes, cargo containers or steel storage containers.
Whatever the name, it is the same thing: a rugged corrugated-steel box engineered to
survive ocean freight, repurposed as the most secure storage available for residential, commercial,
construction and industrial use.

Standard vs. High Cube: which height do you need?
Both come in 20' and 40' lengths on exactly the same footprint. The
only difference is height: a High Cube is one foot taller, inside and out.

Container conditions compared
Condition is the single biggest driver of container price. Grades are
set at the port by an independent, IICL-certified container inspector – not by us.
Three of the four are graded wind and water tight. The fourth, As-Is, deliberately is
not: it is sold cheap and sold honestly, for buyers who are cutting it up or do not need
it dry.

Used – As Is
Sold exactly as it stands, with no guarantee that it is wind or water tight. It
could possibly have small holes or leaks in the walls, roof or floor, doors that may
not close or seal properly, heavy denting, and gouged or patched flooring. It cannot
be re-certified for shipping, even after repair.

Wind & Water Tight
Graded wind and water tight at the port: hinges, gaskets, locking rods, roof seams
and floor all checked, with no active water intrusion and the structure sound. It
is a used container, so expect cosmetic dents, surface rust spotting or faded paint
– none of which affect its ability to keep your belongings dry. We walk each
one on our lot before it goes out and will tell you what we see.

Cargo-Worthy
Cargo-Worthy containers have passed a marine structural survey, the certification
standard required to re-enter ocean freight service. That is independent,
third-party confirmation of structural integrity, documented rather than described.
Cosmetic condition is typically cleaner than WWT, though normal signs of prior use
are still expected.

New One-Trip
Manufactured overseas and shipped exactly once, carrying factory goods to a U.S.
port, before being sold rather than returned empty. That means essentially new
condition, minimal wear and clean paint. The right choice anywhere appearance
matters: container homes, storefronts, or branded commercial space.

Who determines the condition and grade of your container
Grading happens at the port, before a container ever reaches us, and it is done by a
licensed container inspector certified by the IICL – independent of Keen's.
That inspection is what every grade on this page refers to. When a unit lands on our
lot our team walks it and looks it over – doors, seals, roof, floor – and
we will tell you what we see. We do not grade or certify containers ourselves.
Why grade affects price
A New One-Trip container costs more because it went through a factory build and a
single voyage rather than years of ocean and inland freight service. A WWT container
costs less because it carries the honest wear of prior use while remaining fully
weatherproof. Cargo-Worthy sits in between, with the added assurance of a passed

Door configurations
Every container is available with your choice of three door layouts.
Standard End Doors
The original factory cargo doors on one end – full-width, gasket-sealed and
lockable with a standard hasp. The most economical configuration and the right
choice for most storage, where you load and unload from one side.
Double Doors, Both Ends
Cargo doors on both the front and the back, so you can walk or drive straight
through. Known in the trade as a tunnel or double-ended container. Popular for
equipment storage, farm pass-through use, and jobsites that need to load from two
directions without repositioning the container.
Side Doors
Cargo doors built into the long side in addition to the factory end doors, opening
the full length to a forklift or a pallet jack. Reaching an item no longer means
unloading everything in front of it, which is what makes this the layout of choice
for active inventory, tool storage, and anything worked out of daily.
Delivery & site prep
We deliver every container by tilt-bed truck directly to your property,
with no crane required. The truck backs into position, then hydraulically tilts its bed
so the container slides off under its own weight and settles onto your prepared site.
We deliver containers across Florida and Georgia
Every container is hauled from whichever of our seven lots is nearest you – six
in Florida and one in Waycross, Georgia. Containers are heavy and hauling is the
expensive part, so buying from a lot near you is what keeps the delivered price down.

Pickup & delivery pricing
Pick it up free
Collect from any of our seven lots at no charge. If you have a trailer rated for the
weight, this is the cheapest way to take a container home.
Delivery from $350
That covers sites within 50 miles of the lot your container ships from. Past 50
miles it is quoted on haul distance – another reason to buy from the lot
nearest you.
Drop-off, not setup
Delivery places the container on your prepared site. If you want it set up beyond
that, ask your sales rep about setup options when you order.
Delivery is not included in the container price. It is confirmed with
your quote, along with sales tax, before you pay anything.
Site prep checklist
- Ground should be firm and reasonably level. Gravel, compacted dirt and concrete all
work; soft sand and saturated ground do not, and a loaded truck will sink. - Leave a straight, clear run behind the drop point – about 60 ft for a 20'
container, 100 ft for a 40' – at least 12 ft wide, with 16 ft of overhead
clearance the whole way in. Low branches, wires and fences are the usual problems:
the bed tilts high before the container touches down. - Containers can be placed directly on bare ground. If you would rather keep the floor
up out of wet ground and let it drain, set the container on blocks or railroad ties at
the corners. - Check with your local municipality or HOA about placement requirements before
delivery – requirements vary by location.

Cor-Ten steel is the same weathering-steel alloy used across the
international shipping industry specifically because it resists corrosion in harsh,
continuous outdoor exposure. That is the property that makes a steel storage container a
durable choice for long-term storage on your property, and it matters in Florida and
Georgia, where heat, humidity, salt air and summer storms are the conditions it has to stand up to
year-round.

Figures below are typical for new-manufacture ISO dry cargo containers and can vary
slightly by manufacturing year and mill. Every container we deliver carries its own
CSC plate with the exact tare weight, maximum gross weight and
manufacture date stamped for that specific unit.

Shipping container or storage shed?
We sell both, so we have no stake in which one you pick – only in
you ending up with the one that suits the job. They are built for different things.
A container is the better fit when
- Security is the priority – solid steel walls and cargo doors that lock with four vertical rods
- You load with a forklift or pallet jack, or want to drive straight through
- You want it dropped and done, finished the day it arrives
- Rated capacity matters – roughly 58,000 to 61,000 lbs
- You may move it later; it hauls away the same way it arrived
- You are cutting it up for a build, where As-Is is the cheapest way in
A shed is the better fit when
- It sits where it has to look right – HOA-friendly, with colors, roof styles, porches and windows
- You want a specific size or layout rather than a fixed 20 or 40 foot box
- You want walk-in doors for daily access, or a roll-up door to drive a mower or ATV straight in

Shipping container questions, answered
What is the difference between Standard and High Cube?
Standard containers are 8'6" tall. High Cube containers add a full foot of height at 9'6" tall – same footprint, more usable vertical space. Both are available in 20' and 40' lengths.
What condition grades do you sell?
Four: As-Is (lowest price, sold with faults and no wind and water tight grading), Wind & Water Tight (graded sealed against wind and water), Cargo-Worthy (passed an independent marine structural survey), and New One-Trip (essentially new, a single voyage). All four are graded at the port by a licensed, IICL-certified container inspector, independent of Keen's.
Is an As-Is container weather tight?
No. As-Is is the one grade that carries no wind and water tight grading. It could possibly have small holes or leaks in the walls, roof or floor, doors that may not seal, and heavy denting. It cannot be re-certified for shipping, even after repair. Choose As-Is if you are cutting it up for a build or need a rough box where weather does not matter – not for anything you need to keep dry.
What door options are available?
Three: standard factory end doors on one end, double doors at both ends for drive-through access, or full-length side doors that open the long side to a forklift or pallet jack. All three are available on any size and grade.
Is a "Conex box" the same thing as a shipping container?
Yes. "Conex box" is an older military term (short for CONtainer EXpress) that has become common slang for any steel shipping or cargo container. We use "shipping container" and "Conex box" interchangeably – they refer to the same steel storage unit.
How much weight can a shipping container hold?
Nominal maximum payload runs from roughly 58,000 to 61,000 lbs depending on size, based on standard CSC weight ratings. The exact figure for your specific unit is stamped on its CSC plate.
What site preparation do I need before delivery?
Firm, reasonably level ground with roughly 60 feet of straight, clear run behind the drop point for a 20' container or 100 feet for a 40', at least 12 feet of clear width, and at least 16 feet of overhead clearance the whole way in. See the delivery and site prep section above for full detail.
Do I need a permit to place a container on my property?
It depends on your city or county and how long the container will stay in place. Check with your local building department before delivery.
How much does container delivery cost?
Pickup from any of our seven lots in Florida and Georgia is free. Delivery starts at $350 for sites within 50 miles of the lot your container ships from; past that it is quoted on haul distance. Delivery drops the container on your prepared site – ask your sales rep about setup options when you order.
What if my site is tight or hard to access?
Call your nearest Keen's Buildings lot to discuss your specific site. Our delivery team can advise on placement options for tighter or less-standard access.
How long does delivery take once I order?
Timing varies by size, grade and lot inventory. Your local Keen's Buildings team will give you an exact delivery window when you order.
Where do you deliver shipping containers?
Across Florida and Georgia. Containers are hauled by tilt-bed truck from whichever of our seven lots is nearest you – Live Oak, Live Oak Super Center, Chiefland, Perry, Dade City and Masaryktown in Florida, and Waycross in Georgia. If you are just outside those two states, call us and we will tell you straight away whether we can help.
Can I finance or rent-to-own a shipping container?
Yes. Keen's Buildings offers financing and rent-to-own plans in addition to outright purchase and short-term rental.
What color do your containers come in?
Colors vary from container to container – you will see ivory, white, grey and other shipping-line colors. That is especially true of used containers: they come in whatever color they were built in, so we have less control over it. If color matters to you, ask your sales rep what is on the lot nearest you.
