As of June 5, 2025, unincorporated Volusia County no longer requires a building permit for residential sheds of 480 square feet or smaller; sheds larger than 480 square feet still require a permit. However, properties inside Daytona Beach city limits fall under the City’s Permits & Licensing Division, which permits sheds under the Florida Building Code, so confirm requirements with the city before building. Zoning setbacks, height, flood provisions, and any electrical, plumbing, or mechanical work require separate review regardless of shed size.
